'A Monster is Loose in the City' was made in 1976 while i was attending the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary, Alberta.

It was recorded on a 100 foot roll of colour 16mm filmstock using an animation stand during the course of one night.

The sound was pieced together from several records: 'Purple Haze' by Jimi Hendrix, a sound effects record, and a Firesign Theatre album.

Another student in my class recorded the commentary that i had written. It was so long ago that i forget the other details.

The original print of the movie on 16mm film is currently at the Winnipeg Film Group. Every time it is screened the quality deteriorates.

I decided to put it online so that i can watch it once in awhile without threading a projector. It is a cool experimental film ahead of its time.

Mike Maryniuk voted this movie #5 in the top ten Winnipeg Film Group films of all time.
